With only two months to go before the festival’s opening, we begin to unveil our exemplary programme of films.
With over 2000 submissions from 87 countries, we’re proud to bring films from all over the world to the North East as well as showcasing special films from the region itself.
Two world premieres will take place at the inaugural Newcastle International Film Festival: Toru Tokikawa’s documentary MCZ vs. KISS which chronicles the journey of a musical collaboration between American rock legends KISS and Japanese all-girl pop group Momoiro Clover Z, as well as Urban & the Shed Crew directed by Candida Brady and starring Richard Armitage, Anna Friel and Charlie Heaton. Academy Award-winner Barbara Kopples’ This is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous will have its UK premiere during the four-day weekend.
We also announced a variety of events including an opening night screening of Mike Hodges’ Get Carter including a Q&A with the director on March 29th; a March 30th midnight screening of Night of the Living Dead in remastered 4K; a screening of Doomsday followed by a Q&A with director Neil Marshall; a three-film retrospective of Om Puri’s career along with a Q&A with his ex-wife and son; an Our Friends in the North marathon and a presentation of never before seen slides at the Mining Institute. The festival will also present a series of workshops, In Conversation and In Sight courses led by the industry’s top minds.
Expect appearances from Neil Marshall, Davy Johns, Jane Witherspoon, Mike Hodges, Craig Conway, Caroline Goodall, Richard Armitage, Ian and Titus Ogilvy, Candida Brady, Peter Flannery, Toru Tokikawa, Denise Welch and Olivier Award-winning actress Jill Halfpenny.
