Double Bill & InConversation: Denise Welch and MP Chi Onwurah
At an InConversation hosted by journalist and TV presenter Jane Witherspoon, our very own Denise Welch and Newcastle’s MP Chi Onwurah will answer questions on mental health, diversity and disability. This In Conversation will be headed by a double bill of Denise’s short film ‘Black Eyed Susan,’ a dramatic portrayal of mental health, as well as the 1991 film ‘The Body Beautiful’ directed by Ngozi Onwurah, Chi’s sister. Not to be missed! Your ticket includes a delicious hot breakfast.
Fright Night: Doomsday and The Night of the Living Dead
A showing of Doomsday, the futuristic horror classic from North East director, Neil Marshall, will get the evening underway and will be followed by a Q and A with the director himself, actor Sean Pertwee – who can currently be seen in the hit tv series Gotham – and actor/director Craig Conway.
And then at 11pm The Night of the Living Dead will come to the city, with a newly digitally remastered version of the cult classic which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Attendees will start the night with a Zombie cocktail and even get some bloody popcorn to enjoy, with a prize for the best dressed Zombie.
6pm – 9pm Doomsday Screening
11pm – 2am Night of the Living Dead Screening

Brooke Conway’s “Onceupona” Children’s show premieres at this year’s Newcastle International Film Festival. Brooke has been a huge success in children’s entertainment as a performer and director, working across national stages including the Edinburgh Fringe BBC Stage, Children’s Story Telling Centres and London’s Olympic Park Copper Box Arena where she performed with over a thousand children in her enchanted Rainforest musical extravaganza.

Searching For Light is a chronicle of one man’s journey to find the darkest skies on planet earth. Gary Fildes is an author and founder/CEO of the internationally renowned and award-winning Kielder Observatory in Northumberland. Not your run of the mill scientist however, as Gary harboured a secret passion during his 25 years as a bricklayer, knowing his one true love was always astronomy. Fildes, through sheer grit and determination, went on to create a public observatory with an aim to inspire, enthuse and educate all who visited it. In doing so, he eventually realised his dreams of becoming an astronomer.
